Had Enough

Tyler decided over the last couple of weeks that he has had enough suffering and did not want to pursue the option of a second transplant.  We have been working towards a hospice arrangement because Tyler does not want to be in the hospital when he dies.  With this newest infection, he may not get the choice, but we are still going to work towards that goal.

He showed an initial response to the antibiotics, but worsened significantly overnight again.  The doctors think that the fact that Tyler has gotten worse, while on the best possible antibiotic for the infection they found, suggests that the chance that he will survive this infection long enough to get home are very slim.  Certainly, without a functioning immune system, it is only a matter of time before an infection overtakes him.

We truly appreciate the many folks that have asked if they can come visit, but think it would be best if we limit to just the family for now.

  2. Dear Tyler & Mandy,
My heart is heavy with this latest news of Tyler's continued struggle against the ravages of this disease. God bless you both for the fight you have waged against it for so long. I will pray for your continued strength and courage as you continue to walk this path together. My heart is with you both and I only wish I could offer more in the way of comfort to you. I will hold you close in my thoughts and prayers.

  4. Oh Mandy, I am so sorry that it has come to this point for you two. I have been following your blog for the last year and a half. I have been amazed at Tyler's continued desire to fight to be here with you. I am praying that his transition out of this world is a peaceful and quite one. I hope that you are able to share all the words between each other that you need. Sharing in someones death is a beautiful, painful, amazing and profoundly intimate experience. Letting our loved one go is the most difficult ultimately the greatest gift you can give. Let your love for one another and the love that so many have for you carry you through what is to come. All my love, Anna
